New Music + Reviews (as of September 15 release dates)

The 15th of September proved to be a packed day for music releases with several of today’s most popular artists releasing new songs. New Zealand born singer Lorde put out a remix of her song Homemade Dynamite from her sophomore album Melodrama. This remix includes breakout stars Khalid and SZA, as well as rapper Post Malone. The three extra voices on the track give it a fresh sound and breathes it new life.

Modern rock royalty, Fall Out Boy, released the third song off of their upcoming album Mania. The song, titled The Last of the Real Ones, follows a similar sound to their album Save Rock & Roll, which gave the world hits like My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up) and Alone Together. The track warrants at least a constant nod of the head as the band’s lead singer, Patrick Stump, delivers his unique vocals over the catchy melody. Fall Out Boy’s seventh studio album, Mania, is slated for release on January 19, 2018.

A cappella superstars from the Grammy award winning group, Pentatonix, Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying, known together as Superfruit, released their first full length album as a duo on September 15. Titled Future Friends, Grassi and Hoying deliver a sound that contrasts greatly from their group Pentatonix. Electronic and Tropical House vibes are scattered throughout the album which, paired with the powerful vocals of both men, create an unforgettable project that can lift one into a trance-like state where nothing exists except the music.

Electronic dance music superstars Galantis made their long anticipated album, The Aviary, available on September 15. The cover art grabs the listener’s attention immediately. It is adorned by a cat-bird hybrid that seems to be looking directly into your eyes. As one listens to the album, emotions like heartbreak and happiness are heavily felt. Some songs are dance tracks that would provoke an entire room to dance while others follow a slower pace yet still stay true to the electronic origins of Galantis.

New Movies + Follow Ups (as of September 15 weekend)

Horror thriller It tops the box office on the weekend of September 15, becoming one of the top ten grossing movies of 2017. Trailing in second place is American Assassin featuring Maze Runner and Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien, while Jennifer Lawrence’s newest motion picture Mother! falls short of expectations and underperforms with Friday sales reaching only $3.1 million.

Celebrity News

Following the tragic event of Hurricane Harvey and the destruction of Houston, Texas, several celebrities volunteered their time to be featured in a telethon that took place on September 12. All proceeds from the event were donated to Harvey recovery efforts. In total, $44 million was raised. Celebrities who participated in the telethon included Houston native Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, and many more.

American popstar Selena Gomez recently revealed that she had undergone a kidney transplant, a procedure she had done that was essential in her lupus treatment. Long-time friend of Gomez, Francia Raisa, was the donor.

Fashion News

In the “Big 4”: New York, London, Paris, and Milan, women’s fashion week season began on September 7 in none other than New York City. From September 7 through 14, some of the world’s most known designers displayed new collections to the public. These designers included labels such as Marchesa, Michael Kors, and Marc Jacobs.

Following the close of New York Fashion Week, London began their own fashion extravaganza the day after. The staple British label, Burberry, was by far the most anticipated collection to be shown in London. All eyes were glued to the models walking down the runway as they were sporting clothes that show off the cool autumn climate of the UK.

Starting September 20, the world’s most iconic fashion city Milan will host women’s fashion week through September 26. Hours after, the final of the “Big 4” will debut their fashion collections through October 2.

In fashion publication news, actress Rooney Mara is set to grace the October issue of American Vogue. On the opposite side of the globe, Lorde will be on the October issue of Vogue Australia, one of the many international versions of Vogue.
