Woodgrove teacher Sarah Armel will be traveling to volunteer in South India for four weeks in the
summer of 2018 as part of the Limited Resource Teacher Training (LTTR) organization. The program sends volunteers to poverty-stricken areas of the world to train educators.

Armel was one of only 29 volunteers chosen to train teachers in Bangalore, South India. She must undergo a 20-hour training course prior to leaving the US, and once she arrives in India, she will be observing teachers and training them to better serve their students by preparing them to achieve success and to make a positive impact in the world.

Armel has been teaching for five years, and she serves as a learning specialist at Woodgrove. She also has multiple masters’ degrees in Special Education and Administration. LRTT chose Armel based on her experiences in working with a varied population and because of her training as an administrator.

Armel is excited to share her knowledge with the teachers in India. She said, “I will be challenged as an individual as well as an educator, and that terrifies me and excites me at the same time.” Armel would also like to participate in a similar venue in the US, but she has been not been able to find a domestic program similar to Limited Resource Teacher Training at this time.

Before heading to India, Armel must raise the money for all expenses, which is a costly endeavor. “As a volunteer, I am responsible for my travels, including my flight, visa, travel insurance, vaccinations, program fees, and meals.” Because of this, Armel has set up a Go Fund Me account to relieve some of the financial stress.
