2017 was a hit year for movies. Marvel continued their seemingly never ending tour de force, ‘Dunkirk’ was thrilling, ‘Get Out’, was terrifying, and art films like ‘mother!’ and ‘The Shape of Water’ broke out into mainstream theaters with astounding success. After such an interesting cinematic year, it would seem difficult to try and continue that streak. That hasn’t
stopped anyone from trying, however, and with the proverbial appetites whetted, here are several 2018 films that will be coming to a cinema near you.

Solo: A Star Wars Story: May 25th

Star Wars will always be one of the most beloved movie franchises of all time.  Now, the movies are back and considered to be very good by old fans and new fans alike.  The Force Awakens,  Rogue One, and The Last Jedi are all well-received installments to the Star Wars franchise, but now it’s time for the next movie.  The upcoming Han Solo movie will be the second Star Wars anthology film, the first being Rogue One, and it will be the first standalone Star Wars movie.

A Quiet Place: April 6th

A Quiet Place is John Krasinski’s debut horror movie. This means it could be even more unique and unpredictable since he’s only worked on The Office, and other comedies as a director. The plot of this movie is centered on a family who lives isolated in complete silence, for fear of an unknown threat that can hunt them down from the slightest sounds.  The trailer for this movie is full of mystery and terror, so audiences can expect lots of intense and hair-raising scenes.

Incredibles 2: June 15th

The long fourteen years have come to an end. The fan-favorite superhero family is back in Incredibles 2. The movie will take a twist from the original as it will focus on Elastigirl  as the main superhero fighting evil powers. Mr. Incredible, who was in the spotlight for the last movie, will be a stay at home dad this time around. The movie is set to hit theaters on June 15, 2018.

Ready Player One: March 29th

Based on Ernest Cline’s science-fiction work, Spielberg’s new Ready Player One takes place in the far-off year of 2045, reality is an ugly place. Infrastructure has crumbled, the environment is beyond repair, and most people spend their days plugged into the OASIS, a virtual-reality game which offers an escape from their dying world. Wade Watts is a nobody in every world, but when he finds the first clue in an 80s-themed Easter egg hunt laid out by the game’s mysterious designer, he is thrust into a complicated and dangerous world where nothing, real or virtual, is safe.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom: June 22nd

The sequel to Jurassic World is near its worldwide release. The movie will take place four years after the events of Jurassic park, where a volcano is about to erupt. Owen Grady and Claire Dearing will then return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs before the volcano erupts, while they uncover a conspiracy that is threatening the entire planet they encounter terrifying new breeds of gigantic dinosaurs. There have been speculations that the film will feature the return of the Spinosaurus, but that is yet to be confirmed.

Avengers: Infinity War: May 4th

The excitement for the Avengers franchise has returned as strong as ever, prompted in part by the promise of an even larger ensemble cast. The film promises not only to contain the titular squad, but also various other Marvel characters. The team and accompaniment, returning to face perhaps the biggest baddie yet in Thanos, will be sure to make waves no matter how their return goes, and the capable hands of the Russo brothers makes their future look bright.
