The Battle Continues

On December 13th the boys varsity basketball team played against Loudoun Valley.  Last year Woodgrove beat Valley and were expected to do so again this year, however Vikings gave the Wolverines a bit of a surprise.

Valley started off the game with a basket, before Woodgrove senior Brad Gilson connected on the first three-pointer of the game that sparked a Woodgrove run in the 1st quarter.   At the half, it was 20-19 with the Wolverines holding the upper hand.

However the Wolverines lost their lead after the intermission, and by the end of the 3rd quarter it was 35-28 Valley.

The Wolverines were able to cut back into the game back down to five after senior Brendan Wells’ three-pointer with 1:30 left in the game, but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 49-41 to the Vikings.

The Wolverines were led by Gilson with a game-high 17 points, followed by Wells with 7.

Valley senior John Yoxthimer led the Vikings in scoring with 16 points.

The Wolverines next two games are this Thursday at Potomac Falls and Friday at home against Heritage.
