New Changes for Purcellville Gateway Shopping Center

The ground-breaking for the new Starbucks franchise in the Purcellville Gateway Shopping Center is underway. The building space pad has space for two businesses; no other businesses have leased the second open space. The new Starbucks will be not be hiring any new employees because the franchise is bringing in already trained employees.
Residents have the question of how Purcellville can support two Starbucks in the same shopping center, since the Harris Teeter also houses Starbucks.
Current Starbucks employee, junior Brooke Love, says that she does not believe that the new Starbucks will affect the Harris Teeter Starbucks. “No employees will lose their job. The Harris Teeter Starbucks is more convenient for our shoppers.”
The Purcellville Gateway will also undergo the building of a Chick-Fil-A that will be located to the side of the shopping center, along with a two lane drive thru. Construction should begin in late 2014.
Concerned citizens and local residents spoke up at last years town meeting. Purcellville resident Peter Van Dyke told Leesburg Today that he asked the council to oppose putting in the Chick-Fil-A and Starbucks for environmental, safety reasons, traffic fumes and noise. However, it was not a big enough concern to the council, so the procedure of building continues.
After the space next to Starbucks is filled, and the Chick-Fil-A is finished, there will be an expansion onto the Pet Valu store. After that, all open space in the Purcellville Gateway shopping center will be filled. Since its inception in 2006, the Purcellville Gateway has created 300 new jobs, and the retail number, the sale of retail goods, is up 77%.
