The freshman class was named winner of the annual homecoming mural competition, by receiving the most amount of points by the judges.
The competition consisted of each class creating a mural which reflected their sub-themes to the overall homecoming theme, ‘Cinema.’ The freshman class had a sub-theme of ‘DreamWorks,’ and created a mural depicting the word surrounded by popular characters the company has created.
The class had brainstormed ideas for the mural since the beginning of the school year, when the themes were announced. The mural was designed, laid out, and carried out by freshmen Ava Bergel, Brianna Baker, Annabel Nelson, Elizabeth Aramayo, Fatima Kahn, and Susan Cahan. They brought their ideas together to make a final project they were happy about.
Baker says, “I thought it was really great to have this experience with the artists I didn’t know at Woodgrove.”
The mural competition has become a tradition at Woodgrove, and serves as the center display of the class stairwell decorating competition. Each class must supplies its own materials and ideas, and must complete their design only with members of their class in the time allotted.
Bergel says, “It was fun, and it involved a lot of paint and patience.”
As freshman took first place, the sophomores were in a close second, followed by the seniors and the juniors.
