The lady wolverines started off the 2016 gymnastics season with a bang after placing first in their inaugural competition of the season at Loudoun Valley.

Led by senior team co-captains Sarah Snare and Kaycee Delitta, the team scored a total of 134.35 points closely followed by Riverside with 133.35 points.  Newcomer to the team, Sophomore River Stone placed 1st all around.

“Going into the meet, I felt solid on floor and vault, but with beam and bars I was a little nervous because I was doing new skills,” says Stone. “I had a few minor mess-ups, but overall I did better than I thought I would.”

The team went on to compete in the four events: floor, beam, bars, and vault. During meets, team members cheer each other on with words of encouragement.

“Good support is the basis behind any team,” says senior Sarah Snare, “It’s great to have people cheering, and to have someone to hug after you salute at the end of your routine.”

Every team member did well at the first meet, but they don’t have much time to rest. The girls will travel to Nokesville to compete in the Flip for a Cure invitational this Saturday.
