Woodgrove Football Players Commit to Colleges
February 27, 2017
After ending the regular season with a perfect record, it’s no surprise that ten members of the varsity football team signed letters of intent to play at the college level.
Varsity Head Coach Mike Skinner led the ceremony held on February 17, by listing impressive statistics and discussing each player’s personal attributes.
According to Skinner, Quarterback Mickey Kovich was responsible for 46 touchdowns and just under 3,000 yards this season, both rushing and passing. Chima Kpaduwa rushed for 18 touchdowns off of 1,456 yards, and A.J. Organ threw three touchdowns off of 157 yards. Mason Gryniuk broke 1,000 yards on the season and connected with either Kovich or Organ 11 times.
The defensive side, represented by Thomas Ellis, Aaron Fitzwater, Timmy Vacca, Zach Stanley, and Kevin Burke, also logged impressive stats. In total, they were responsible for seven interceptions, fifteen fumble returns with a touchdown, and they assisted with twenty-nine kickoff returns.
Cameron Kilgour, Mason Gryniuk, Timmy Vacca, and Aaron Fitzwater all made the 4A West All-Team Rosters, along with Mikie Kovich, Zach Stanley, and Mason Gryniuk named as Honorable Mentions.
Cameron Kilgour and Mason Gryniuk were named to second team All-State.
