On February 2nd, The Washington Football Organization officially changed their name to The Commanders. The announcement ends an eighteen month wait for the team’s new name, following the dropping of the “Redskins” in July of 2020.

The Commanders will be keeping the classic burgundy and gold colors but will be getting three new uniforms. Woodgrove Junior and Washington fan Brayden Fuchs says, “The uniforms are very cool. I will definitely be buying Commander jerseys and more in the future.”

While a lot of fans are happy about this name change, there are many who are not. Woodgrove Sophmore Jack Towe says, “I feel like the new Washington name is not a good fit for the team; it doesn’t show off the team’s history.” Although feelings are mixed, it doesn’t change the fact that the 22-23 NFL season is approaching. Washington fans are excited to see what the new Commanders can do.
