Woodgrove junior Mila Jenkins decided to share a relatable and heartfelt passion of her’s with the public. For the first time six months ago, she uploaded her first vlog to her YouTube channel, @milamarie. Even though vlogging had been a passion of hers for quite some time, she had to overcome a certain obstacle, she explained, “I always have been vlogging and recording my life but have been too scared to post it, because I thought people would think cringe, but then I decided I do not care because it makes me happy. I thought ‘What am I going to lose? Nothing.’” Jenkins has since outgrown her fear, and she fully embraces her content creating persona, even when other people are around. “I really like filming in public—it’s so cool. Occasionally people will give me dirty looks, but I don’t care,” Jenkins described, laughing. Her favorite vlog she has posted was her Alaska travel vlog. Coming from a family that enjoys going on cruises, Jenkins decided to turn the opportunity into a vlog. She not only posts vlogs on her YouTube channel, but actively posts creative content and bits of her life on Instagram as well.
Jenkins understands the limitations of content creation on the typical teenager, so she offers helpful and motivating advice. “Do not worry about the equipment you have or do not have. Just film something that makes you happy and put it out there!” she encouraged. Jenkins’ videos and posts bring joy to her viewers, and she has supportive friends to motivate her through the process. Most notably, her friend JJ Domine, a junior at Woodgrove, has supported her by commenting positive things and watching all her videos. Domine shared, “I love how she doesn’t change the person she is in front of the camera. She stays positive and funny not only on her channel, but in person too.”
Jenkins has experienced personal growth from her content creating experience. “I’m more expressive and energetic when I am filming, so I have gotten to learn about another side of myself,” she explained. Whether it is through a YouTube video or an Instagram post, junior Mila Jenkins is able to brighten people’s day while exploring a lifelong passion.
