In the spring season of Woodgrove High School, there are many sports to try out for, including tennis. Tennis is a sport that uses rackets, where teams of one or two hit a ball back and forth, trying to score points. Points get awarded to the team if the opponent player fails to return the ball within the dimensions of the court. Woodgrove is happy to have a new head coach, Coach Grace Longosky, for the girls tennis team after Mr. Louis Sharp’s retirement last year. Longosky is a substitute teacher and also teaches younger kids to play tennis.
Ainsley Bowman, a junior on the team, shared, “We just have a good team atmosphere, and I think Coach Grace will be good for that. She’s pushing for team-building activities and team dinners and stuff,” explaining how the tennis team is welcoming the new coach with good vibes. Players on the team are grateful for the new activities and cannot wait to bond on and off the court.
Junior Madison Barti expressed, “She is a very nice person and has some helpful tips. I hope that she can make this team great.” Barti and the tennis team hope to have a great season with a new coach.
Sharing her own expectations for both the coach and the team, Barti expressed, “I hope she can lead us to states or to a victory.” Bowman also explained, “Coach Grace is making us run drills to better our technique.” Both Barti and Bowman are looking forward to the rest of the season and making connections with Longosky.
Woodgrove welcomes Coach Longosky with open arms as she serves into the season with smiles and laughs with the athletes. The girls are so excited for the upcoming season and hope everyone comes out to the courts to watch them in action.
