Loudoun County, Virginia, is strengthening its commitment to public safety with the development of two state-of-the-art fire and rescue stations in Round Hill and Lovettsville. According to the Loudoun County Government, these new facilities are designed to meet the growing needs of their communities and provide modern, efficient services to residents. The new Round Hill station will be on West Loudoun Street, next to the Western Loudoun Sheriff’s Office. The new Lovettsville station will be adjacent to the already existing station on Berlin Turnpike.
Situated on a nine-acre site along West Loudoun Street, the new Round Hill Fire and Rescue Station #4 is set to replace the existing facility. The 20,500 square foot station will feature four bays, gear storage, bunk rooms for 14 firefighters, an exercise room, and office spaces for both volunteer and career staff. A 2,500-square-foot community room will also be available for public use, reflecting the station’s role as a community hub. EMT Trainee and volunteer and senior at Loudoun Valley Brody Scott said that “the new fire stations will be extremely helpful in helping Western Loudoun keep up with its growing population.”
The Round Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, established in 1966, has been a foundation of local emergency services. Despite a dedicated volunteer base, the department has increasingly relied on career staff to maintain 24/7 operations, especially during daytime hours when volunteers are often unavailable due to other jobs or commitments. The new station will alleviate pressure on the already overwhelmed work force of Round Hill Fire and Rescue.
Similarly, Lovettsville is replacing its aging fire station with a modern 19,200-square-foot facility. Recent assessments noted that the previous station was outdated and would require a comprehensive renovation to remain active. Located adjacent to the current station, the new building will include four bays, several sleeping quarters situated with bunk-beds, administrative offices, and essential amenities such as showers, lockers, a kitchen, and a dining area. The construction project, valued at approximately $16 million, began in late 2022, with substantial final completion reached in March 2025. Ricardo Flores, an active-duty firefighter at Lovettsville station, shared that his favorite additions to the new station are “the brand new gym and training areas, which will allow for us to better train recruits and remain in peak physical shape.” These new systems and amenities for the station will hopefully increase recruitment for the station and improve firefighter retention rates.
Mayor Christopher Hornbaker of Lovettsville discussed the station and expressed his excitement for improvements to safety in the Western Loudoun area. “The station provides state-of-the-art facilities providing advanced safety features for the nearly 100 career volunteer fire and rescue personnel, including many current and former Wolverines.” He also shared, “It also allows for an advanced level of service to folks in and around Lovettsville by being one of the first Loudoun stations in history to have an advanced life support unit for 24/7 care.”
As these projects near completion, residents of Round Hill and Lovettsville can look forward to improved emergency response capabilities and facilities that reflect the communities’ dedication to safety and service.
