Summer is quickly approaching and bringing a wave of fresh trends in fashion, beauty and more! Get ready to explore the must-have items that will define this season. Whether you’re hitting the beach, attending outdoor events or just enjoying the sunshine, there’s something for everyone.
Trends have evolved into what they are today, even going as far back as the 14th century when aristocrats began dress trends to display their wealth and social statuses. Summer trends have reflected shifts in technology, societal values and norms. In the mid-20th century, classic styles like swimwear and cotton dresses dominated the industry. As time went on, the influence of pop culture and music brought bolder patterns and clothing styles. More recently, summer trends are heavily influenced by social media. Typically, whatever is trending, people are going to automatically follow what is considered “cool.”
Similarly, the rise of social media influencers, specifically on TikTok and Instagram, has also accelerated the spread or trends, making them more accessible to the public and diverse to everyone. Paige Tracy, a freshman at Woodgrove, shares how she finds the latest trends.”Usually when it comes to social media, I mostly see new trends come up on the internet and in my daily feed. With that, I mostly base my current styles on the trends I see online and go from there. I truly think social media has a huge impact on people’s lives and especially with the trends that we see evolving today,” She shared.
For the summer of 2025, makeup and fashion are on a roll. As influencers and companies are sharing their takes on the “hottest trends,” viewers of all ages are eager to explore. As far as fashion goes, clogs, birkenstocks, boho aesthetic fashion (specifically Boho dresses,) Alo yoga clothing and maxi skirts (specifically cotton or denim,) are popular trends for this year. A new trend gaining popularity in the skincare world is Beef Tallow, known for its moisturizing and nourishing properties. Beef tallow is rich in fatty acids, similar to those found in the skin, which can help hydrate and support a healthy skin barrier and give you a “glow” that people strive for in the summer.
As each person has their own summer staples, For Tracy, she shared. “For fashion, Jean shorts, floral tops, flip flops, clothing with bright colors, and patterns have always been a summer necessity in my opinion. I think all of these items can really pull an outfit together and compliment each other really well.”
This summer, step out of your comfort zone and embrace the trends that make you happy. Whether it’s experimenting with vibrant colors, incorporating new trends that set you apart from others or accessorizing with bold and fun jewelry, let your style reflect the freedom of the season and most importantly, be yourself!
