Woodgrove DECA Goes to Atlanta

After competing in the Virginia DECA state competition, seven Woodgrove finalists advanced to the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.  The team was comprised of Sophomores Brad Hoffman, Ryan Virts, David Fischer, Junior Alex Palacios, and Seniors Kayla Serratore, Tim Murphy, and Reece Ottoson, otherwise known as Team Hobbs, named after our beloved marketing teacher.

The international competition had a wide variety of events, ranging from hospitality and tourism to school-based enterprises (school store). Over sixteen thousand high school students, advisors, judges, and business professionals from all over the world were in attendance. The opening ceremony was held in the Georgia Dome and the flags of each country and state were paraded across the stage, ranging from Alaska and Hawaii to Guam and China. It was a fantastic experience meeting new people from all over the world.

In addition to the ceremonies, competitors also had the opportunity to visit many of the tourist attractions Atlanta had to offer. The Woodgrove chapter visited the Georgia Aquarium and the Coca Cola Museum. DECA also arranged for a country concert, featuring Brett Eldredge and Easton Corbin as the main performers.

Team Hobbs put forth a great effort in the ICDC competition after months of preparation and practice. Although no one received an award, it was still a fun experience and amazing opportunity. We are proud of all those who competed and wish them the best of luck in the future!
