Woodgrove High School hosted its first annual Fine Arts Gala on May 8th. The Gala had many performances from all branches of the fine arts departments, including an art gallery created by students of all ages, along with silent and live auctions.

Fine arts classes including theater, art, chorus, band, guitar, and orchestra along with extracurriculars including Odyssey of the Mind, Winterguard, Winter Drumline, and the Women’s A Capella group filled the main foyer, auditorium, cafeteria, and gym with talent.

“Students showed a lot of ownership towards their work, and the fact that we could have middle schoolers involved was really exciting to me. The gala was a very positive experience for everybody,” said art teacher Mr. Grove.

Raffle baskets and a silent auction were hosted by the Lovettsville Mayor Robert Zoldos. These auctions created an opportunity for the community to receive quality goods such as candles, kitchen products, and Woodgrove spirit packs, while raising money for the Fine Arts department. Each basket included a theme that contained donations from students who are involved in each program. Around $6,000 was raised that night and will go towards fine art programs.

“The gala was great and the talent from the Woodgrove High School Fine Arts department was showcased very well,” said sophomore Amber Bartling.
