In pursuit of the title of Woodgrove Idol, 11 students performed in the annual vocal competition held on March 21 in Dentime. Brendon Hernandez and James Stevens took home the grand prize, a microphone-shaped trophy.

The duet performed a song by country artist, John Denver, “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” Students showed ecstatic support, raising their phones’ flashlights in the air.

In order to be part of this intense battle, students audition to earn a spot. A combination of four duets and two solos were accepted, and participants had two weeks to prepare for the challenge.

On the day of the event students support their peers by paying one dollar to enter the auditorium, and money collected goes to the Wolverine Culture Team.

Five Woodgrove faculty members served as judges, Mrs. Kelly Trenary, Mr. John Sharples, Ms. Sheri O’Connor, Ms. Natasha Shildneck, and Mrs. Brianne Allis. Students also voted for their choice on Google Classroom. Contestants can win points from the judges, as well as from the students votes. Once the results are finalized, the winner of Woodgrove Idol is announced.
