The End of “Twilight”

November 16th marked the end of one of the highest grossing movie franchises of all time.  “Breaking Dawn—Part 2,” part of the “Twilight” series, earned the eighth spot for best opening weekends in movie history, grossing $141.3 million in the United States alone.  It grossed another $199.6 million internationally, totaling an impressive global $340.9 million opening weekend, according to CNN.

“Twilight” fans of all ages flocked to theaters Thursday the 15th to see the 10pm early release.  The Cobb Theater in Leesburg had approximately three hundred people in line at 8:30pm, two and a half hours before the showing to show their support for their favorite characters.  Woodgrove High School senior Kristen Haislip said, “I am Team Bella’s Dad’s Moustache.  That was my first movie premier, and it was really exciting to be in the crowd waiting.”

“Breaking Dawn—Part 2” was the final movie in the five movie series and based on the four “Twilight” books by Stephenie Meyers.  Woodgrove High School junior Victoria Whitfield said, “I went to the premier three hours early to see the last movie, and the line was already really really long!”

The epic love story between Bella Swan and Edward Cullen concludes in this final installment of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series.  The movie’s plot picked up exactly where “Breaking Dawn—Part 1” left off,  with the main character Bella Swan (Kristin Stewart) awaking,  as a vampire, from her life-threatening delivery of her newborn daughter, Renesmee.  She proves to be special, even among  gifted immortals.  Bella gave birth to her daughter in the first part of the final pair of movies, and now as a newborn vampire, she is a danger to her own daughter.  While Bella adjusts to her new life, Renesmee experiences rapidly accelerated growth.  When the Volturi, the antagonistic Italian vampire law enforcers, learn of the baby’s existence, they declare her to be a threat to vampire secret and sentence the Cullens to death.  Bella, Edward (Robert Pattinson) and the rest of the clan seek help from allies around the world to protect their family.

The movie was a nice end to the series, featuring a surprising twist ending that left even those who read the books shocked and amazed.
