Woodgrove against Valley

Woodgrove and Loudoun Valley basketball teams faced off January 23, 2012 at Loudoun Valley High School.  The undefeated Woodgrove girls played first and won by a wide margin.  The score was 71 to 32.  Brooke Basinger led with 20 points scored, followed by Sarah Hardinson with 14 points.

“I was pretty happy when we defeated our rivals, Valley.  Everyone played great.  I hope the rest of the season will go the same,” said Halle Lynch.

The boys’ team was up next.  Woodgrove has had a challenging year so far, winning only one game prior to facing their cross-town rivals.  In the first four seconds of the game, the ball was turned over to Woodgrove.  Davy Wick was the first to score for the Wolverines with a three- pointer.  The game was tied 3 to 3 for the first minute.

The Valley student section chose not to stand up and cheer until Loudoun Valley scored 10 points, and then the student section rose to its feet and cheered consistently.  The Woodgrove Wild student section stayed quiet for most of the game.

At the end of the first quarter, the score was Woodgrove 7 and Valley 26, but at end of the half the score was 17 to 46.  Woodgrove was still down at the end of the third quarter where the score was 23 to 62.

The game ended with the score 43 to 75.
