Lady Wolverine Basketball Commands Victory

With their 53-37 win over Loudoun County High School on Friday the 15th, the Lady Wolverines improved their conference record to 18-0, and secured the Dulles district tournament title.  By beating Loudoun County for the third time this year, Woodgrove secured a spot in the Region II tournament, along with Loudoun County, who accumulated enough regular season points to also advance.

The team was lead by sisters Brooke and Brittany Basinger who had a combined 24 points.  The pair accounted for all but one of the team’s 14 second-quarter points as Woodgrove built a 25-15 halftime lead.  Maggie Phillips and Chloe Knox each scored 10 points for Loudoun County (21-4), but the Raiders failed to crack double-digit scoring in a quarter until the fourth, when the game was already out of hand.

In the first round of the Region II tournament, Woodgrove trampled Liberty High School in a 72-13 victory on the 19th.  Sarah Hardison led the team with 15 points and 6 rebounds.  With the first round win, one seeded Woodgrove, advances on the play the fourth seed Millbrook on Thursday the 21st with an overall 23-3 record.
