Woodgrove Wrestling: Post-Season Results

As the winter sports season comes to an end, the wrestlers at Woodgrove are closing with a bang. The Varsity team finished their season at 6-1. They suffered their first loss of the season to Sherando 33-34, but the Wolverines won wide decisions over James Wood, Millbrook, Loudoun County, Dominion, Heritage, and Park View. Special Congratulations to Dylan Shockey, Peter Mysak, Joe LaRock, Austin French, and Will Gehl who all went 7-0 for the season. The varsity current record is 25-1 and the team has won three tournaments, the Hedgesville Duals, Loudoun County Championship, and the Handley Invitational.

The varsity arrived with full force at the Virginia High School League Group 4A Wrestling Championships in Salem on February 20th. The Conference 21 champions secured a solid fourth-place team finish at the state tournament. In the 126- pound class, Woodgrove senior Dylan Shockey came up as a state runner-up, defeated by Lio Quezada from Handley. Joe LaRock earned a state runner up as well in the 152 pound- class, defeated by Garrett Tingen of Fauquier High School. Teammates Jacob David (170 pound- class) placed third, and Kyle Branch (182 pound-class) placed fourth.

The JV team finished up their season at the JV Super Regional at Skyline High School. With an outstanding performance the team finished in second place out of the 19 teams in the region and finished with 305.

Individual performance recognitions are Catie Cavallaro, Joe Candelaria, and Drew Perry. All three sophomores dominated their weight class with Catie winning two of her four matches by pin and no decision closer than 8-3. Both Candelaria and Perry pinned their way through their bracket as well.
