Woodgrove triumphs in a record setting dismissal of Fluvanna

Saturday wrapped up the last of February, and the Woodgrove Wolverines Men’s Varsity Basketball sent it off with a record setting dismissal of the Fluvanna Flucos by the score of 91-60.

The 4A North Region Basketball quarterfinals took place on home court for the Wolverines, and they made their presence felt in a defiant fashion.

Junior Carl Huber led the raid with the school record setting seven three pointers, adding to his total of 25 points in his aerial assault of the Flucos.

Fluvanna had little to answer after jumping to an early 13-8 lead in the first quarter. Woodgrove began its show case of points after jumping to 11 unanswered, giving way to a commanding 21 points lead in the third quarter. There was no looking back.

Seniors Jameson Copeland, Davie Wick, and Matt Gilson all landed shots from behind the arch, but it was junior Carl Huber’s night to remember. Setting personal and school records, Huber pushed aside the ailment of flu symptoms pre game to drop the hammed on a stunned Fluvanna Flucos team. “I didn’t know at the time it was a record,” Huber said. “But I was happier just to get the win.”

Woodgrove will move forward with momentum in the playoffs, continuing its record setting journey deeper into the playoffs than ever before. Moving on to the Regional semi-finals, Woodgrove now have a home showdown against George Washington, hoping to claim another victory on the road to a state title.
