Woodgrove Cross County Competes in Carlisle Invitational

The Woodgrove Cross Country team recently traveled to Carlisle, Pennsylvania where they competed in  the Carlisle Invitational with a strong showing.

Senior Mary Anna Adams said, “I think Carlisle is exactly what the team needed this season. The perfect weather conditions and a fast course not only put everyone in a great racing mindset, but gave us all the opportunity to run fast.”

The boys’ varsity team placed second in a field of 36 teams. The team was led by Senior Aedan Pettit placing third with a time of 16:35 minutes, and Senior Devin Geier placing ninth with a time of 16:54 minutes. The varsity squad was rounded out by Senior Brett Peterson with a time of 17:36, Sophomore Will Fincher with a time of 17:39, Junior Collin Shipp with a time of 17:55, Junior Josh Lassiter with a time of 18:00, and Senior Aiden Bergel with a time of 18:46.

In the freshman boys’ race, Freshman Rylan Pettit ran a blistering time of 17:31 placing first in the competition. This ranks him fourth of all freshman boys in the state of Virginia. This also sets a Woodgrove record, the fastest time for a freshman in school history.  The JV race runners also had a strong showing led by Junior Jack Bowen, who ran a time of 18:13.

The girls’ varsity team placed sixth out of 34 teams led by Freshman Shelby Kostal with a time of 20:16, Junior Allison Marrs with a time of 21:02, and Senior Mary Anna Adams with a time of 21:05. The varisty girls’ team was finished out by Senior Kelly Sullivan, Sophomore Emma Jane Kimmet, Senior Alivia McAtee, and Freshman Sophie Hudak. JV girls also had a strong showing led by Junior Nikole McClure who ran a time of 21:47.

Adams said, “The energy throughout the day coming from endless PRs (personal records) and Little Pettit’s (Rylan) win in the JV race was just getting everyone so excited. It was the most excited I have ever seen the Woodgrove Cross Country Team and by far one of the best meets in Woodgrove Cross Country history.”
