The Woodgrove Wolverines Varsity Football team came out victorious in a last second thriller against the Pioneers of Millbrook High school with a score of 31-28. The game fell into a double overtime finish that left the Wolverines storming the field to celebrate their fourth consecutive victory.

Woodgrove found themselves in a two-touchdown deficit early, but found momentum by scoring a second quarter touchdown to bring the score within seven heading into halftime. Woodgrove’s only lead of the game came on the final score. Junior Kicker Cameron Gieseman drilled a 24-yard field goal from the outside hash to put the Wolverines ahead by three, which eventually became the difference in the final score.

Senior Running Back Charlie Clewis rushed for over a hundred yards for the fifth straight game, finishing with twenty-six carries for 106 yards. He also added a pair of touchdowns on the ground, bringing his stats after five games to 748 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Junior Receiver Mason Grynuik hauled in a fourth quarter touchdown to tie the score at  21-21 as the game made its way to overtime. The Pioneers pounded in a three-yard touchdown run in three plays to put the Wolverines in a must score situation.

Junior Quarterback Mikey Kovich was 12-19 on passing attempts for 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Kovich’s most pivotal play came in the first overtime. Kovich was pressured on a drop back pass and was surrounded by Millbrook defenders. Kovich evaded the pass rush and found his way through a curtain of defensive linemen to connect with Senior Mikey Bryant for a nineteen-yard touchdown pass to tie the game.

Gieseman then came out to hammer a twenty-four yard kick to put Woodgrove ahead in the second overtime. The Pioneers were forced to kick when the Wolverines held their ground on defense.  The Pioneers sent Senior Kicker Matthew Hershberger out to tie the game.  The kick sailed through the air, but rang off of the left goal post, propelling the Wolverines to storm the field in celebration of their fourth straight victory of the year.football stats 2football stats
