Woodgrove Wins Battle of Purcellville: November 13

The Woodgrove Wolverines varsity squad wrapped up the final game of the regular season with a huge win over their cross town rivals, the Loudoun Valley Vikings, by the score of 28-8. A strong second half lifted Woodgrove to a twenty point victory that set Woodgrove up with a first round playoff home match with the Pride of Heritage High School this Friday night and put the Vikings playoff dreams on hold until next year.

The game took just under 24 minutes for either team to score, but that didn’t hold Wolverines Senior Running back Charlie Clewis from finding the end zone from one yard out with under a minute to go in the first half.

The second half came around, and so did the Woodgrove offense. Led by a 48 yard touchdown hurl from junior Quarterback Mikey Kovich to junior Wide Receiver Mason Grynuik, the Wolverines extended the lead to 14-0.

Kovich rebounded from early struggles and controlled the game both through the air and on the ground With a 19 yard touchdown run with 1:28 seconds to go in the game, Kovich put Woodgrove up with the score of 21-0. Kovich would finish the game with 171 yards through the air with a touchdown and an interception.

Clewis led the Wolverines with 162 rushing yard on 28 carries and two touchdown runs. Receiving, Junior Wide Out Mason Grynuik hauled in three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown catch.

The Wolverines (9-1) are set to take on the Pride of Heritage High School (6-4) in the first round of the 4A West Playoffs this Friday in a race to the state title on Friday.
