The Woodgrove Wolverines varsity football squad brought the heat on a cold November night to send the Pride of Heritage High School home for the year. In the 4A Regional first round playoff game, the Wolverines took home a victory with the score of 40-13. Led by a five touchdown performance from Senior Running Back Charlie Clewis, the Wolverines stacked on 34 points in the first half to put the game out of reach for a struggling Heritage Squad.

The Pride battled strong for all 60 minutes, but it was the defensive pressure that lifted the Wolverines to victory, and sent the Pride’s Junior Quarterback Alex Carlin scrambling for options for a majority of the game.

Woodgrove’s running game has proved to be the poison of opposing defenses, rushing for a combined 352 yards against a shaken Pride front seven. Senior Charlie Clewis ran for 256 yards for the Wolverines, while Junior Chima Kpadwa added 96 yards to the total.

Junior Alex Carlin brought light to an otherwise dismal night for the Pride both through the air and on the ground. Carlin found sophomore receiver Tyrique Moss for a 20 yard strike to get the Pride on the board. Carlin Tucked and bolted 66 yards to the open real estate in the second quarter to bring the score to 34-13 heading into halftime. However, the Wolverines defense dug deep and held the Pride scoreless during the entire second half.

The Wolverines are set to take on the Warriors of Sherando High School in Stephens City, Virginia this Friday.
