The Woodgrove Wolverines boys’ basketball squad kicked off their second round of the Conference 21 playoffs Wednesday night with a tough home show down against the Pioneers of Millbrook High School. The Pioneers started off with strong offense and the Wolverines were never quite able to keep pace, falling by the score of 31-43.

Both teams kept a stout defense and held each other to under ten points by the end of the first quarter, but heading into the locker room at halftime, the Wolverines found themselves down by ten with the scoreboard at 10-20 in Millbrook’s favor.

Leading the team in scoring for the Wolverines, Senior Carl Huber finished the game with 10 points, wrapping up a night 2/2 from the free throw line, and adding two three pointers to his night.

Senior Taryk Baylor led the Pioneers of Millbrook with a 14 point night, shooting 5/16 from the field. Defensively, the Pioneers forced a combined nine turnovers, grabbing 16 defensive rebounds and snatching 13 steals to wrap up a victory in Purcellville.

Woodgrove move on now to start the 4A regional tournament on Monday, and with brackets currently in the making, the Wolverines have yet to know the opponent.
