Woodgrove Track and Field hosted the Wolverine Classic Invitational this past Friday, April 20th, 2018, with girls tying for 1st overall and boys placing 5th overall. A total of 24 teams attended the meet, making it the largest in the region.

The Woman’s track and field team finished with a total of 75 points, driven by top three place performances by Seniors Genovi Rattana-Jones, Amanda Loch, and Kaylee Washington; Juniors Olivia Haller, Sophie Hudak, Calle Junker, Grace Kostal, Shelby Kostal, River Stone, and Ahmirah Roberson; and Sophomore Kylie Budd.

“I think that racing at home helped. We had a lot more fan support so having that be there, on their own track where they work on all the time, really helped,” says Woodgrove Track Head Coach, Kent Staneart.

The Men’s Track and Field team scored 47 points during the meet, with top results from Seniors Will Fincher, Matt Geier, Matt Lanzer, Sean Murphy, and Alex Murion; and Junior Rylan Petit.

“I knew I had some really tough competition but I really wanted to win the race on my home track and do the best that I could. I was just praying the whole time that I could just make it through the race,” says Petit, who placed first in the 3200-meter run.

Woodgrove Track athletes will next travel to Winchester, Virginia on May 11th for the Millbrook Last Chance Invitational.
