SpongeBob Springs to Stage

Coming to a stage near you is SpongeBob the Musical! Woodgrove is the first school in the county to put on this production, and it’s looking to be one to remember. Performances will be during the month of May. There will be an exclusive performance at Harmony Middle School on May 4th and performances on the Woodgrove stage May 5th, 6th, and 7th.

SpongeBob the Musical is based on the animated series by Stephen Hillenburg. The musical score has some originals from big name artists like Steven Tyler, Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, and also has featured songs by David Bowie and others. The musical follows the story of the beloved character SpongeBob SquarePants, while he and the other sea dwellers of Bikini Bottom face the destruction of the place they call home — chaos strikes and lives are at stake. Like any good story, a hero emerges and takes the spotlight. “This huge ensemble show is full of colorful off-Broadway costumes, neon colored moving set pieces, someone who creates sound effects on stage, and a live orchestra,” says Beverly Pruzina, Woodgrove’s newest drama director.

Woodgrove’s pit orchestra will be led by the Woodgrove Orchestra director Samantha Oakley, and the musical will be directed by Pruzina
