The holidays are a significant and busy time of the year for everyone. It is a season full of staying under warm blankets, drinking hot chocolate, and watching holiday movies.

One major holiday favorite is the movie Elf, which features famous actor Will Ferrell. The storyline follows a boy named Buddy growing up in the North Pole as an elf. He wants to find his biological human father. Elf is known for being a comedic Christmas film. Woodgrove High School’s Grove Theatre is performing Elf the Musical, as well as hosting a fundraiser called Pancakes with Buddy the Elf and Friends. The musical runs from December 7th through December 10th in the school auditorium.

Another favorite holiday movie is How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The story plot is very self explanatory through the movie title.  The movie is so popular, there have been three adaptations made. The first one is the original animated movie, which was made in 1966. The second one is the only live action version which came out in 2000 with Jim Carrey playing the Grinch. The newest Illumination animated version, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, was released in 2018.

Home Alone is another popular holiday movie. A young boy, Kevin McCalister, is accidentally left at home on Christmas after being a brat to his family. He must protect himself and his house from two thieves, Harry and Marv. This film stars actors such as Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern.

A Christmas Story, yet another cherished holiday film, came out in 1983. A young boy, Ralphie Parker tries to avoid a bully, and dreams of getting his ideal Christmas gift. It stars Peter Billingsley playing Ralphie.

It is no surprise why these classic favorites are traditional family movies. Some may be considered oldies, but they continue to provide joy for the latest generation.
