The Super Bowl is one of the most watched events every year. For Super Bowl LVII, it had an average audience of 115.1 million viewers. Making it the highest viewed Super Bowl of all time. However, the viewership has not always been like that.

The first Super Bowl took place in 1967 and the game was between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Green Bay is the team that came out on top being the first ever team to win the Super Bowl in the National Football League (NFL). That first Super Bowl had an average viewership of 24.43 million viewers.

Football, at the time of the first Super Bowl, was not the biggest sport to watch for Americans. Baseball was the American sport back in the early 20th century. Later on, football soon wove itself into the conversation of being America’s sport. A major element of that has been its two-week anticipation of the two best teams in the league of 32, going at each other to win it all. Another element to the Super Bowl being one of the biggest events in sports is time for family and friends to gather together.

“The reason why I enjoy Super Bowl Sunday is because of all the food I get to eat. My family gets around 150 wings for the Super Bowl and I just get fat and happy with them. Watching the actual game itself just makes it ten times better of course. This year is going to be a very good Super Bowl I feel like as well,” senior Bryson Vaughan stated.

This year the San Francisco 49ers are going up against the Kansas City Chiefs. Many fans of football are excited to watch the Super Bowl this year. “It was cool seeing the Chiefs win three Super Bowls in the past five years and becoming a real dynasty. However, I am a little disappointed in seeing the 49ers lose the Super Bowl since their last Super Bowl win was in the 90’s. Overall the Super Bowl was entertaining to watch because we got to see the Super Bowl rematch between the 49ers and Chiefs,” stated Erik Cotter.

Before the game many speculated that this would be the most viewed Super Bowl of all time due to the fact Chiefs player, Travis Kelce, is dating a well known singer Taylor Swift. Those speculations later turned out to be true. This year the Super Bowl had 202.4 million views. With the Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes leading the game winning drive in overtime against the 49ers with an exciting game, Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime performance, and Taylor Swift in attendance this was the bowl to watch.
