The Titanic’s 25th Anniversary

On February 10th, the Titanic was re-released for its 25th anniversary and with it, a newfound curiosity from the public. New footage was released of the Titanic wreckage taken in 1986, opening up conversations about conspiracy theories. The submarine team that took the footage discovered the wreckage site at 2:00 A.M., only 20 minutes before the ship had sunk almost 75 years prior. According to the Smithsonian Magazine, when the submarine team found the ship they held a memorial service on board for over 1,500 people who died in the wreckage.

The Titanic still fascinates people today, and theorists are coming up with conspiracy theories about what caused it to sink or not sink. For example, theorist Robin Gardiner claims it was the Titanic’s sister ship, the Olympic, that sank as an insurance scam., According to History, another conspiracy theory is that J.P. Morgan planned the sinking to kill his rivals. None of these conspiracies have been proven true, although this doesn’t stop people from believing in them. The Titanic, regardless of being lost to the ocean for 111 years, still has people captivated to this day.
