The Grove Theater is back again for their third spring musical under the direction of Woodgrove High School’s most recent director and theater instructor, Mrs. Beverly Pruzina. Popular Musical Comedy “Grease” is currently in production and will be brought to life on Woodgrove’s stage May 1-4, 2024.

Playing the role of Danny Zuko, senior Noah Ubial is excited to be participating in his first musical with the Woodgrove theater department. “I am looking forward to the process of doing rehearsals and getting better at different skills every day. Theater is special to me because of the thrill of performing.”  Rehearsals are in full swing, with the first official dance rehearsal taking place on February 14, 2024.

Theater is an opportunity for students to collaborate with one another to showcase their creativity to the world around them. Senior Sarah Gingerich is featured as Sandy in this production. She has had her fair share of experience in Woodgrove theater, as this is her tenth show she has participated in during her high school years. Gingerich explains, “I love theater because it combines so many of my passions such as singing, acting, art, and just performing in general. I get to take part in telling a story that will mean something different to each person coming to see it.”

There is so much that goes on behind the scenes to help the actors, sets, and props to shine to their fullest potential. Junior Rory Fricano, the costume mistress and hair/makeup supervisor and designer, explains the importance of behind-the-scenes positions: “There’s a lot of technical aspects behind the design process that most people don’t understand, and the research is one of them. It adds so much to the performance that people aren’t conscious of while watching.  I love period wear and decade fashion of the 20th century, so diving deeper into that is something I’m super excited about!”

The cast and crew are both hustling with their various tasks, excited to arrive at the final product in May. Tickets for “Grease” will be available for purchase soon. Stay tuned for more details and be sure to come to see the show because… you’re the one that The Grove Theater wants!
