For years there’s been controversy surrounding whether Marvel or DC is better. While circumstances are constantly changing for both companies, some are unwavering in their opinions. Which superhero is the best? Who has the better movies? It seems these questions will continue to be asked as long as the rivalry survives.

Those who say that DC is superior most likely indulge in comics and older superhero concepts. In an article published by Screen Rant, author Tamara Garcia argues, “When it comes to comic book quality, many fans vote DC is still the best one there is.” Though the website cites users from across several online platforms, the statement holds true considering that many of the most popular superheroes were created by DC in the early 20th century. Superman is said to be the first superhero, created in 1938 by DC Comics, and Batman the year after.

On the other hand, Marvel has gained a successful reputation through their investment in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Movies such as The Punisher (2004), Hulk (2003), and Fantastic Four (2005) were released as “Marvel movies,” but the MCU didn’t debut until 2008 with its blockbuster film Iron Man, which featured the backstory of one of the most beloved superheroes to date. In a recent poll, 91% of Woodgrove students who voted chose Marvel over DC for the title of the better cinematic universe. When asked who the best superhero was, about 33% of voters chose Spider-man, a Marvel superhero popularly developed through the MCU.
