Journalism History: This is Jennie-Kate’s third year in journalism!
Why they joined: In 9th grade, she was initially recommended to join the Yearbook staff. She loves writing, so newspaper seemed like a more interesting option to her. She most enjoys getting the opportunity to interview people who have different or unheard perspectives on the topics she’s covering.
Favorite topic: She loves writing about local issues, student life, community, and fine arts.
Extracurricular activities: Jennie-Kate is the president of Rho Kappa, Quill and Scroll, and the co-president of Woodgrove for Women. She also a member of National Honor Society, Science Honor Society, and French Honor Society. She volunteers at Franklin Park Arts Center and has for the last three. She engages in student press and general freedom advocacy through organizations like the Student Press Law Center and the National Coalition Against Censorship, for which she is a Student Advocate for Speech for the current school year. This will be her second year as a representative for Woodgrove on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee and her second year as a writer for Loudoun Community Press.
Hobbies: She loves to read—mostly classics, contemporary/literary fiction, and some non-fiction. She writes whenever she feels inspired, but she tends towards essays and non-fiction pieces. She tries to make Bible study, as well as morning and evening prayer, a priority in her life.
Fun Facts: She loves Sporcle geography and flag quizzes (it has actually helped her geographical knowledge immensely), she is an avid Letterboxd film reviewer, and she is addicted to iced chai lattes.
